A truck driver fatally shot a fellow trucker from California who was employed by the same company after an argument Tuesday morning outside the First National Supermarkets’ distribution center in Windsor Locks, Conn., police said. The victim was identified as Furman Roy Smith, 46, of Long Beach. Smith was an employee of the Wolfe Trucking Co. of Los Angeles, a First National spokeswoman said.
Charged with the shooting was Percy Mejia, 42, of Lordsurg, N.M., also an employee of Wolfe Trucking, authorities said.
Officers stopped Mejia’s truck about a mile from the supermarket warehouse, Police Capt. John Murphy said. A description of his truck had been provided when the shooting was reported, shortly after 8 a.m. A handgun and sawed-off shotgun were recovered from the truck, Murphy said.
Officers said they did not know the cause of the dispute.
