Four-time champion Susan Butcher broke away from a tight pack of mushers early Tuesday to push to the front of Alaska’s Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race. Butcher was the first musher to reach Shaktoolik, an Eskimo village on the Bering Sea.
Shaktoolik is 934 miles into the 1,163-mile race.
