AT&T; Sells Stake in Unix Unit: Trying to get wider play for its popular computer operating system, American Telephone & Telegraph said it sold 20% to 30% of its Unix subsidiary to companies based in Europe, Japan and the United States but said it will not disclose details until today. In selling the stake, AT&T; has effectively relinquished some control over its computer operating system, which has grown in popularity recently as the industry moves to adopt more flexible standards. The Unix system enables software to be used on a wide variety of computers.
