La Mirada : Civic Theatre Renamed to Entice Big-Name Talent

Officials hope that a new name will bring more success to the city-owned theater, which they have renamed the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts.
The City Council has agreed to pay $4,000 for signs to replace ones with the former name, La Mirada Civic Theatre.
“We changed the name to heighten awareness of the theater,” City Manager Gary Sloan said. The other hope is that the new name will attract more big-name talent, he said.
The city spent $3.5 million to open the theater in 1977, and also pays for upkeep. The money approved for new signs is part of more than $90,000 in recent improvements.
