Bretado Dominates Gymnastics Meet

SAN DIEGO — Annie Bretado of Morse High won the optional all-around and was named the gymnast of the meet at the Torrey Pines Pepsi Cola Invitational Saturday.
Bretado won the uneven bars and edged Fallbrook’s Paige Peterman--winner of floor exercise and vault--36.30 to 36.10 for the all-around title. Justine Eady of Helix won balance beam and took third all-around with a 35.45.
In the cumpulsory championship, Lauren Gist of Torrey Pines won vault on her way to the all-around title. Gist finished with a 35.40 total, to San Pasqual runner-up Shannon Renckley, who had a 34.95 total. Elizabeth Carpenter of Torrey Pines won beam and was third all-around.
In team standings, Torrey Pines finished first with 104.8, ahead of San Pasqual, who had 104.8. Mt. Carmel was third and Torrey Pines “B” team finished fourth.
