Sensitive Article

I was pleased to read Michael Balter’s excellent and sensitive article, “Child Drawings, Writings Survive Czechoslovak Concentration Camp” (April 14). Terezin and the incredible accomplishments of its prisoners during the Holocaust have been of deep interest to me over the years, having researched the music and tracked the performers and performances.

And I plan the Los Angeles premier of the very opera referred to in Balter’s article, “The Emperor of Atlantis,” by Viktor Ullmann and Pieter Kien. It is scheduled for November as a commemoration of the infamous Kristallnacht of 1938. The voices stilled by the Holocaust thus will have an opportunity, so long denied, to be heard again.
