Sold! For $9.5 Mil: “Vase With Daisies and Poppies,” a Vincent van Gogh painting pulled from auction last fall after attracting a bid of only $9.5 million, has been sold for the same amount at a private sale. Philanthropist George F. Goodyear and Douglas G. Schultz, director of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, N.Y., where the painting had hung, said they were relieved to get that price, since the international art market has taken a plunge. “Much better to get $9.5 million now than $12 million a few years from now,” Goodyear declared. Schultz did not identify the buyer.
