THE BIG FIX
To the best of my knowledge, “experts” of the ‘40s proudly and with emphasis told us that the extraordinary freeway system then proposed would, when “finished,” have the capacity to carry all traffic present and future, so, hang the expense! We all agreed, taxes were assessed, and work begun. However, no sooner was one portion “finished” than congestion appeared as if by magic and continued to worsen steadily. Driving time lengthened from minutes to hours, but we coped. Gagging, we still cope.
Here we go again--same old siren song, but new expert sirens!
