Pasadena : Panel to Study Boundaries

The City Council will appoint a 15-member task force to draw new boundaries for the city’s council districts based on the 1990 U.S. Census.

Task force members will be chosen June 7 and have until next March to devise recommendations.

The council split over whether the task force should keep the existing seven-council system or expand to eight or nine districts.

Also left undecided was whether the task force should carve out a district dominated by Latino registered voters. Although the district now represented by Councilman Chris Holden is listed in the census as being majority Latino, officials said they might not be registered voters.
