COSTA MESA : Council to Consider Ban on Smoking
- Share via
The City Council will consider a ban on smoking in all public buildings at its meeting tonight.
The city has designated smoking areas in some buildings but recently banned smoking in all areas of the Neighborhood Community Center. At that time, some council members asked the city staff to look into drafting an ordinance to prohibit smoking in other public facilities.
“(One) reason is the cost of maintenance at the buildings that have a smoking room, (but) the biggest reason, of course, is that smoking is just not healthy, nor is secondhand smoke,” Mayor Mary Hornbuckle said.
The ordinance would allow smoking in city-owned residential buildings, such as the senior center slated for completion next year.
The meeeting begins at 6:30 in the Council Chambers, 77 Fair Drive.
