Whirlpool Corp. and the Netherlands’ Philips Electronics said the U.S. company will pay Philips about $610 million to become the sole owner of a joint venture, Whirlpool International. The company was created in 1989 when Whirlpool acquired a 53% stake in Philips’ worldwide home appliance division.
