A fire that began in a dumpster caused about $75,000 damage early Tuesday to an Oxnard gas and service station, authorities said.
The blaze at Wooley Gas, 1060 S. J St., began at 1:39 a.m., Oxnard Fire Battalion Chief Clarence Slayton said.
Seventeen firefighters extinguished it in about 20 minutes.
The fire began in a dumpster and spread to the service station, where it ignited tires and caused more than $25,000 damage to the contents, Slayton said. The building suffered $50,000 damage, he said.
It appears that the fire was set, but authorities have not found any matches or other incendiary devices, Slayton said.
