JAL Pilots End Strike: Japan Airlines pilots ended a strike protesting plans to hire American pilots, whom, they claimed, were less well-trained. The union also opposes the use of Boeing 747-400 jumbo jets, designed to fly without a flight engineer. JAL’s older jets were operated by two pilots and a flight engineer. The union ended the strike without a settlement, and all flights will return to normal operation today, union officials said.
