Pasadena : Council Asks for New Trial
The City Council voted Tuesday to ask for a new trial for Harry M. Sassounian, an Armenian immigrant and former Pasadena resident convicted in 1982 of the assassination of Turkish diplomat Kemal Arikan in Los Angeles.
The vote came after jailhouse informant Jeffrey Scott Busch said last week that he lied in court when he testified that Sassounian had confessed to the killing.
Sassounian, now in state prison, has maintained his innocence.
