Hungary’s Egerszegi Sets Second World Mark

Hungary’s Krisztina Egerszegi set her second world backstroke record of the European swimming championships when she broke American Betsy Mitchell’s 200-meter mark by nearly two seconds at Athens, Greece, Sunday.
Egerszegi, 17, was timed in 2 minutes 6.62 seconds. The record of 2:08.60 was set by Mitchell in June of 1986. Egerszegi broke the world record in the 100 backstroke Thursday with a time of 1:00.31.
Hungary’s Tunde Szabo finished second in the 200 with a time of 2:11.42. Germany’s Dagmar Hase was third in 2:12.42.
