SWITCHING WOES: In their 31-year history, the Angels (A1, C1) have gone through 14 managers--if you count Gene Mauch twice for separate stints. The Dodgers had only two managers during those same 31 years: Walter Alston and Tommy Lasorda. (Trivia: Charlie Dressen preceded Alston, in 1953.) World Series appearances since 1961: Eight for the Dodgers, and the Angels are still hoping. . . . Tommy Lasorda once told Dodger owner Peter O’Malley: “I love the Dodgers so much I want to keep working for you even after I’m dead.” You can fire someone like that?
