Women’s Event Goes From Palm Springs to Indian Wells

NEW YORK — The year-old Virginia Slims of Palm Springs ceased to exist Wednesday, when tournament owner International Management Group signed a six-year deal with Hyatt Grand Champions to hold the women’s tournament in Indian Wells.
According to Barbara Perry of IMG, it was decided not to renew a sponsorship agreement with Virginia Slims, and another sponsor is being sought.
The event, which will be held Feb. 24-March 1, has been moved from New Orleans to Indian Wells to Palm Springs, and now back to Indian Wells since 1988.
