A parachutist who jumped off a 52-story downtown Los Angeles building Thursday was taken into custody by police for a scolding about the dangers of such daredevil tactics.
“We brought the gentleman into the office to talk about the dangers of parachuting off buildings, certainly the dangers to himself and others, and causing a drain on our resources,” said Lt. Stan Ludwig. No charges were filed.
California Highway Patrol officers apparently saw Matthew McCarter leap off the roof of the Southern California Gas Co. building on Olive Street at 2:45 a.m. Ludwig said. McCarter, 31, of Orange was detained by CHP officers until police arrived, Ludwig said. McCarter was released after the warning.
