NEWPORT BEACH — The owner of an exotic car dealership was arrested Tuesday on charges that he stole $42,000 from a customer in a consignment sale deal, police said.
John Kenneth McKinnon, 51, of El Toro was arrested on a warrant at Exotic Cars Inc. He is registered as the president of the dealership, which opened in August, Newport Beach Police Sgt. Andy Gonis said.
According to Gonis, McKinnon accepted a 1989 BMW on consignment. He sold the car and allegedly “gave the owner a ($42,000) bank draft which turned out to be a bad check,” Gonis said.
McKinnon was arrested on suspicion of grand theft and was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
