Nothing Wrong in Camerata Offer

The editorial “A Sour Note” (Oct. 8) describing the recent Mozart Camerata offer to Orange County Chamber Orchestra subscribers as “predatory” was certainly one way to look at it.
I didn’t see it that way. I felt the offer of a discounted subscription for Camerata concerts to those who may have lost out following the Orange County Chamber concert cancellations was more akin to the insurance companies at large stepping in and continuing the insurance of policyholders who would have been deprived by the collapse of one insurer.
The offer may have been handled in a naive way and not logistically sound. But I see no clear reason to question the ethics or intent of Camerata’s actions. In the absence of any more conclusive evidence I believe the Camerata group deserves a better press than you’ve given them.
