Shotgun blasts from a passing car killed a man and wounded three others standing in an apartment building parking lot in Santa Monica, police said Wednesday. Police believe the Tuesday evening shooting was gang-related
The men were standing in the parking lot at 2122 Pico Blvd. near Santa Monica College about 9:15 p.m. when a vehicle drove up and stopped at an alley on 22nd Street, Lt. Jim Dawson said. Someone in the car yelled out a gang name and then fired four or five shotgun rounds at the group, he said.
Three victims were taken to Santa Monica Hospital, where Gilbert Villalobos, 23, was pronounced dead. David Reyes, 20, and Javier Gonzales, 19, were treated and released. Taken to UCLA Medical Center was Alejandro Franco, 18, who was in stable condition Wednesday with wounds in the abdomen and upper chest.
