I wish to comment on James T. Yenckel’s article (“Airline Policy Requires Passengers to Pay a Price for Losing Their Ticket,” Sept. 29).
Regarding purchasing a new airline ticket in the case of a lost one, Yenckel states that the passenger almost always has to purchase a new ticket and pay the full, unrestricted fare. He, as well as the traveling public, should know that if a travel agent is involved, she should be able to secure the old fare for her client in a majority of the cases. If this problem takes place during normal business hours and the travel agent is the least bit savvy, she can get a waiver and the airline can then issue the ticket at the original price. It takes a little work and knowledge on the agent’s part, but is one of the services of a competent agent.
