A Messy Situation: A former National Enquirer reporter claims that an editor directed the disarray of a house rented by Roseanne Arnold to concoct a “pigsty story” of untidyness and damage. The claims by former Enquirer reporter James W. Cruse were called “absolutely, categorically false” by Richard S. Hoffman, attorney for the Florida-based tabloid. The Santa Monica Outlook carried the statements by Cruse and Hoffman and reported that Cruse’s deposition in the case has been sealed by a Superior Court judge pending a Nov. 25 hearing. The comedian and her husband, Tom Arnold, have denied charges they extensively damaged their leased $3.5-million Benedict Canyon home and say the mess was made after they moved out in May, 1990.
