Stanford sophomore Brian Retterer broke the American record in the 100-yard backstroke for the second consecutive day at the Pacific 10 men’s swimming championships at Belmont Plaza pool in Long Beach with a time of 46.50 seconds. He broke his mark of 46.70 set Sunday during a leg of Stanford’s 400 medley relay.
