HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SOUTHERN SECTION ROUNDUP : Nogales Wins on One of Chavira’s Two Passes

Lawrence Lanham caught a 68-yard touchdown pass from Roland Chavira with 1:10 left to lift La Puente Nogales High to a 20-17 victory over Pico Rivera El Rancho in the Southern Section Division IV semifinal game Friday at El Rancho High.
Chavira, who sat out the first half because of an arm injury, attempted only two passes.
El Rancho had gone ahead, 17-13, 31 seconds earlier on a nine-yard run by Chris Wiley to cap a seven-play, 50-yard drive. Nogales improved to 12-0-1. El Rancho finished 11-2.
Lanham also ran for a touchdown and teammate Lamonte Adams scored on a 38-yard run to give Nogales a 13-10 advantage late in the third quarter.
They rushed for 99 and 56 yards, respectively.
