Catherine’s Legacy

Regarding “A Jewel in the Crown” (Dec. 14): I will pass on the “Catherine the Great: Treasures of Imperial Russia” at the Armand Hammer Museum and Cultural Center, not because of the $9.50 admission price; that is nothing. I will not attend because Catherine II (her proper title), even though she lived so long ago, still insults my sensibilities.
This so-called “enlightened” woman was the cruelest of tyrants to my people, Ukrainians, and some of the items in this exhibit came about as a result of pilfering the country of my ancestors.
Catherine II is not considered “the Great” by Ukrainians, nor any people with some semblance of fairness and compassion.
