Cypress Loses Opener in Rotary Shootout

Cypress lost its opening game in the Rotary Shootout Thursday in Mesa, Ariz., falling, 81-56, to Kankakee, Ill., the top-ranked junior college team in the nation.
Kankakee (13-0) led, 37-17, at halftime. Cypress (11-5) shot only 27% from the floor.
Johnelle Sloane (21 points), Mark Atkins (17) and Josh Peters (12) scored in double figures for Kankakee.
Cypress’ David Boyle scored 15 points, all in the second half. Sam Sabbara had 14 points and Anthony Livingston had 12 for Cypress, which plays in the consolation semifinals at 1 p.m. today.
