DOVER, N.H. — A Textron Inc. automobile components plant temporarily laid off 90 of its 1,200 workers a day after President Bush visited the plant and praised it as an American success story.
Robert Hynes, a vice president of the Textron Davidson Interior Trim plant in Dover, said Wednesday that the decision to furlough the assembly line workers for one week was not made until Jan. 16, the day after Bush’s one-day campaign swing through New Hampshire.
Furloughs have been imposed since October to compensate for the 15% to 20% drop in car sales nationwide, Hynes said.
