Denkin Wins Another Round, May Get Job Back

Onetime California boxing official Marty Denkin, involved in a dismissal dispute with the state for 2 1/2 years, has won another round.
The State Personnel Board rejected the state Department of Consumer Affairs’ request for a rehearing of his case Tuesday in Sacramento, possibly clearing the way for Denkin’s return to the State Athletic Commission’s staff.
Denkin was fired in June of 1989 after the Department of Consumer Affairs said an investigation showed that Denkin accepted cash and jewelry from promoters, managers and matchmakers in exchange for regulatory favors while he was running the Athletic Commission’s Los Angeles office.
Denkin appealed and was given a four-day hearing a year ago before an administrative law judge, who overturned the dismissal.
