A run late in the game was the difference for The Master’s College in a 92-88 upset of visiting Southern California in a nonconference basketball game Saturday night.
Master’s (15-7) outscored SCC, 12-2, during a three-minute span in the second half to turn a 75-72 deficit into an 84-77 lead with 2 minutes 45 seconds to play. Five Mustangs scored in the streak, including Philip Sanson with two baskets.
Sanson’s two free throws with 3:30 left gave Master’s an 80-77 lead, and consecutive turnovers by SCC (15-5) led to layups by Damon Greer and Jason Webster for an 84-77 advantage. SCC, ranked 19th in NAIA Division I, came no closer than three points the rest of the way.
Webster led Master’s with 25 points.
