BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : DODGERS : Hansen Raises His Sights After Getting Two More Hits
- Share via
Dave Hansen, who went to spring training with pinch-hitting in his future, is suddenly in contention for a bigger role.
After Hansen’s second consecutive two-hit game Monday against the Boston Red Sox, Manager Tom Lasorda said that Hansen could be competing for a platoon job at third base.
“He is swinging the bat good. We’re impressed with him defensively,” Lasorda said.
Hansen had a double against Roger Clemens and a single against left-hander Tom Bolton, which impressed the Dodgers because Hansen bats left-handed.
Hansen’s two hits Sunday also came against left-handers.
If Hansen platoons with Mike Sharperson, then Lenny Harris would be free to move to second base if the Dodgers trade Juan Samuel.
Eric Davis took himself out of the starting lineup when his sore shoulder began bothering him again. . . . Kal Daniels hopes to return to the lineup today after sitting out Monday’s game because of a sore right knee and shoulder.
