A 15-year-old San Marcos student was arrested Thursday in connection with the shooting death of a Lemon Grove man, a sheriff’s official said Friday.
Eric Bjelland, 23, died Thursday afternoon at Palomar Medical Center from a gunshot wound in his head, Sgt. Steve Wood said. Bjelland was shot Wednesday night on Rancho Santa Fe Road by one of four youths who fired before fleeing by bicycle, police said.
Acting on a tip, sheriff’s homicide detectives arrested the teen-ager, whose name is being withheld because of his age. A gun believed to have been used in the shooting was also recovered, police said.
The incident does not appear to be gang related, and a clear motive has not been established, Wood said. The youth was booked into Juvenile Hall, and his three companions are being sought as witnesses.
