Debate Over Workers’ Comp System Rages On
- Share via
Some of us do not have workers’ comp blues, instead we are purple with rage!
I do not know of anyone who has an average of 3.112% of payroll for workers’ comp premiums. Often those of us who provide jobs in manufacturing are paying 30% to 50% of our payroll in premiums, most often from claims of people with a Lotto mentality. Look at the ads directed toward workers.
Every day we have people come here looking for jobs because their place of work closed down because “too many workers sued our boss.” These are people who are one paycheck away from welfare.
Meanwhile, we who provide jobs are penalized for having employees. Between the Legislature and the insurance companies there is little meaningful protection for the businesses, and on any given day a worker can decide to go for it after hearing what a friend received.
