BURDEN OF BEASTS

Howard Rosenberg’s well-balanced article on Ingrid Newkirk (“Fighting Tooth & Claw,” March 22) reminds those of us with reason and compassion to overcome the irrational, emotional and damaging rhetoric of organizations such as PETA. Animals are ours to eat, wear or experiment on, and it is not “arrogant” to say that. Arrogance is someone like Newkirk instructing the rest of us to apply human morality to inferior species, which our ancestors had to kill and eat in order to evolve in the first place.
