Sport: Softball
Position: Pitcher
Class: Junior
The Gladiators’ ace pitcher won two games to push Gahr’s league record to a perfect 7-0 in the San Gabriel Valley League. Sagert’s statistics for the two wins: 14 innings pitched, 11 hits, 23 strikeouts, no earned runs. She struck out 10 batters as Gahr defeated Warren 11-1, then struck out 13 batters and scored the tying run as Gahr slipped past Downey 3-2. Sagert was also a hot hitter, getting four hits in six trips to the plate. The two wins pushed her record to 17-2 this year and lowered her earned-run average to a minute 0.31.
BOYS’ ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Mike Greenlee
School: La Mirada High
Sport: Baseball
Position: Pitcher
Class: Senior
The right-hander threw seven innings, allowing five hits and striking out 10 batters, as he led his team to a 3-1 Suburban League victory over Norwalk High. The win pushed Greenlee’s record to 8-0 and helped boost his team’s league record to 7-2, good enough for sole possession of first place. Greenlee has pitched a total of 55 2/3 innings, giving up 36 hits and striking out 69 batters. His earned-run average is 1.06. Greenlee has 20 consecutive wins without a loss; he has not lost since the last game of his sophomore season in 1990. The 20 consecutive wins ranks him in the top five in the CIF Southern Section all-time record book.
