Cal State Northridge will fondly remember its trips to Arizona and Grand Canyon.
For the second consecutive season, the Northridge baseball team swept a three-game series at Grand Canyon College’s Brazell Stadium, finishing off the Antelopes, 22-9, on Sunday.
The eighth-ranked Matadors (36-10-1) had a season-high 26 hits off seven Grand Canyon pitchers, including four each by Greg Shockey, Greg Shepard, Mike Solar and Andy Hodgins.
Shockey went 4 for 4, scored three runs and had two runs batted in. Among his hits were a pair of doubles, giving him a school-record 52 in his career. The senior outfielder also has 150 career RBIs, equaling Craig Clayton’s school record.
Shepard, a junior, belted solo home runs in the first and ninth innings, giving him six for the season; he had four RBIs. Scott Richardson had a homer and five runs batted in.
Northridge plays fifth-ranked Pepperdine in Malibu at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
