VENTURA : 7 Teachers to Get Golden Wing Awards

Seven top teachers in the Ventura Unified School District will be honored Thursday during ceremonies at the Doubletree Hotel in Ventura.
The teachers will receive Golden Wing awards, so named because the instructors inspire their students to “soar to the heights of their individual potential,” said Sylvia McGinnis, the event’s organizer.
This year’s recipients are Bryan Bowman, Chris Mikles, Gregg Norberg, Diane Shaw, Patti Post, Lynn Ramirez and Linda Brug.
The awards are being presented by the Ventura Unified School District Educational Foundation, a nonprofit organization that raises funds to support Ventura’s public schools.
Two of the recipients will be named as the district’s teachers of the year at the awards dinner, McGinnis said.
The pair chosen also will represent Ventura Unified’s nominations for the state’s annual Teacher of the Year contest.
