Wayne Speak: The U.S. box-office hit “Wayne’s World” has arrived in Great Britain, introducing Britons to the curious words (“babe-osity”) and sentence structure (“ ... Not!” ) of the popular American TV and film characters Wayne and Garth. An intensive marketing campaign designed to familiarize the United Kingdom with the comedy duo helped theaters in Great Britain and Ireland gross $2,682,886 on 281 screens in the first five days. “It’s not a record, but it’s a phenomenal number considering we started from ground zero,” said a Paramount spokesman in Los Angeles.
