Man Is Charged With Trying to Bilk Blind Woman of Fortune

PHILADELPHIA — A former stockbroker has been charged with trying to defraud a blind, 90-year-old widow of her $900,000 fortune by faking their marriage, the FBI reported Friday.
Agency officials said that Lee Alderton, 47, proposed marriage to the widow, his former client, but was rebuffed. He then allegedly asked a former employee of the widow to take the widow’s place in a sham wedding, wearing a wig as a disguise. The officials said Alderton offered to marry the woman after the widow died.
The woman, 52, told police of the alleged proposal and agreed to tape her conversations with the suspect, the FBI added.
Alderton was arrested Thursday and charged with wire fraud involving interstate phone calls. The two women were not identified.
