Ex-Caver Wins NCAA Steeplechase

Marc Davis, former San Diego High runner, won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Track and Field Championships Friday at Austin, Tex.
Davis, who now attends Arizona, won the grueling race in a time of 8 minutes, 36.79 seconds. Donovan Bergstrom of Wisconsin was second at 8:38.21.
While at San Diego, Davis won section titles in cross-country (1986) and track’s 1,600 meters (1987).
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Falisha Wright of San Diego State was named to the U.S. Women’s Junior National Basketball Team by USA Basketball. Wright, a freshman from Paterson, N.J., made the team after a four-day camp at Colorado Springs, Colo. The Junior National team will compete at the Women’s Junior World Championship Qualifying Tournament in Mexico City, Aug. 23-30.
AUTO RACING
Tonight’s racing at the Cajon Speedway will include the debut of the only all-Ford NASCAR Sportsman Division car. The 1992 Ford Thunderbird will be driven by Bob Thompson, an eight-year veteran of local NASCAR races.
Qualifying at the speedway begins at 6 p.m. with racing at 7:30.
