Michael McCarty to Close Restaurant: The Santa Monica restaurateur will close Adirondacks, his Washington, D.C., restaurant, on June 30. McCarty, who owns Michael’s in Santa Monica and another in New York, had been attempting to renegotiate the Washington restaurant’s 25-year lease. “We were paying three times the fair price,” said Ricardo Solares, the restaurant’s manager. “Instead of paying $360,000 a year, we tried to renegotiate to $120,000.” Solares said sales at the Washington restaurant were up this year. In March, McCarty filed for protection from creditors under Chapter 11 of the bankruptcy code on all three restaurants.
