Nike in Battle to Use Name at Olympics: Nike Inc. is in the midst of a legal battle with a Spanish attorney who owns the Nike name in Spain--first registered there 60 years ago by a Barcelona sock maker. Pressure is building on both sides: Nike, a sports shoe and apparel company based in Beaverton, Ore., wants to clear the matter up before the July 25 opening ceremony. Juan Amigo Freixas, who says the athletes can’t use the Nike name without his permission, knows his payoff will shrink after the games end.
