Glidden Unveils Non-Petroleum-Based Paint: Glidden Co. has introduced what it says is the first conventional interior latex paint made without petroleum-based solvents. Most water-based latex paints contain petroleum-based solvents that evaporate and react with nitrogen oxides in the presence of sunlight to form low-level ozone, a component of smog. Glidden said it hopes to remove petroleum-based solvents from its products by the year 2000.
