Western Intervention in Bosnia

I read Alexander Cockburn’s comments on the situation in Bosnia (Column Left, Aug. 9) with a great deal of sadness. We have heard these arguments before. When the Soviets sent tanks to crush the Prague Spring, there were many American communists who brought forth the ridiculous argument that the news media were unfairly biased toward the Czechoslovaks, and that the Soviets’ side of the conflict was being wholly ignored. The Soviet side being, they insisted, a morally legitimate one.
It is so very sad that now, as then, there are people so blinded by their political biases that they truly believe morally legitimate reasons can be found for the torture, rape, internment and killing of innocent women, children and men. And some, like Cockburn, will even write articles to argue the case.
