10% Debt Reduction
President Bush’s acceptance speech proposal to allow for a 10% debt reduction checkoff box on our federal tax forms is a good first step but doesn’t go nearly far enough.
In addition, the taxpayer should be given the option of deciding what programs the 10% should come from. Checkoff boxes to indicate defense, Medicare, education, farm subsidies, child care, etc., should also be included.
Come to think of it, if the taxpayers are going to do the Congress’ and President’s jobs for them, let’s also include a box to indicate a 10% cut in their salaries.
