SOUTH GATE : Bilingual Hot Line to Assist Parents
- Share via
Parents who have problems with their children can call a free, bilingual hot line to speak with trained counselors.
The hotline number is (213) 567-KIDS.
Counselors are available from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Callers can leave a message after hours and on weekends; calls will be returned on the next working day.
“This service is a big help to parents who are coping with the many demands of raising responsible children,” said Mayor Johnny Ramirez.
The project employs 10 counselors who advise callers on youth problems or refer them to agencies. The counselors, who speak English and Spanish, are provided by the South Gate-based Juvenile Assistance Diversion Effort, a publicly funded agency that works with troubled youth.
The volunteer Commission for South Gate Youth, which coordinates programs for the city’s young people, is helping fund the program, which also receives state and federal funding.
