NEWPORT BEACH : Committee to Study West Newport Plan
- Share via
The City Council this week appointed nine members to a committee that will scrutinize a West Newport Comprehensive Plan in an effort to lessen traffic, crime and noise problems in what the city calls its “war zone.”
West Newport covers the area from Seashore Avenue to the Santa Ana River Jetty, where up to 30,000 people live and visit during the summer months.
The area is responsible for a third of the city’s crime, and most of the homes are summer rentals. On the Fourth of July weekend, 230 people were arrested and 1,200 citations were issued in West Newport.
Members of the committee are area residents Lyndi Fauria, Dave Goff and Max Morgan, realtor Sally Cook, architects Todd Schooler and Rush Hill, outside residents Paul Balalis and Debra Allen and Planning Commissioner Jan Debay. Council members John Hedges and Ruthelyn Plummer will head the committee.
