Trade Deficit Reversed: The nation reported a trade surplus of $503 million for September, reversing a $754-million deficit posted a year earlier. Exports rose 17% last month to $6.62 billion from $5.68 billion a year earlier, while imports fell 4.9% to $6.12 billion from $6.43 billion. September’s positive balance and the $112-million August surplus constituted the country’s first consecutive monthly surpluses since June and July, 1990.
