A SPECIAL REPORT: GETTING AROUND

GETTING BETTER?: Although it’s still the busiest interchange in Orange County, the infamous Orange Crush--where the Santa Ana, Garden Grove and Orange freeways meet--is losing traffic for the first time. . . . The intersection averaged 486,000 vehicles per day in 1991, down from 1990’s average of 492,500. The state Department of Transportation’s $103-million overhaul of the intersection is the reason, says spokesman Steve Saville. “People are finding alternate routes.”
