Southland Anti-Abortion Protests Draw 6,000

Thousands of anti-abortion protesters held signs and stood side by side along several Southern California thoroughfares Sunday as part of a nationwide “Chain of Life” demonstration.
About 6,000 people showed up at two hourlong demonstrations, one in the San Gabriel Valley and the other in Torrance.
About 3,000 people held “Abortion Kills Children” signs in Torrance as they stood at Hawthorne and Artesia boulevards, said Police Lt. Mike Tamble.
Last year, a similar event at the same intersection drew a much larger gathering of 20,000 people.
In the San Gabriel Valley, about 3,000 people stood along a 2 1/2-mile stretch of Azusa Avenue from the San Bernardino Freeway in West Covina through the city of Covina.
The demonstrations were part of anti-abortion protests staged by church groups across the country.
